Obituary of Lucy Torres Calderon

Please share a memory of Lucy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beloved Lucy Torres Calderón, age 90, resident of Austin, Texas, was called by our Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 21, 2016. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Guillermo Calderón, Sr.; her son, Guillermo Calderón, Jr., her parents, Norberto and Altagracia Torres; her sister, Margarita Renteria and husband, Mauro, and her brother, Paul Torres. Lucy is survived by her loving children, Margie Calderón, Ester Regalado and husband, Alvino, and Oscar Calderón; her grandchild, Adrian Logsdon; sister Sally Ramirez and husband, Raymond, and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends. Born in San Marcos, Texas, Lucy grew up in the heart of Austin on Red River and Eighth Street as a young girl. Eventually her family moved to Waller and 7th Street in East Austin where she began working early in life to help her family. She met the love of her life when they were both working at the downtown Kress store. After a long courtship, she married and moved to Del Rio, Texas, to begin a 42 year marriage. Lucy shared her vivid memories of Waller Creek and early Austin often with her children; a great contrast to her life in the small frontier town. She was a mother who dedicated her life to her children, consistently planning parties and driving her children and their friends to school, band practice, or Friday night football games. She created a home that was full of joy, laughter and love. She was proud of her short time as secretary of the PTA, and her greatest joy was listening to her children talk, laugh, and debate late into the night. Her greatest accomplishment were her four children, all college graduates. She endured life's twists and turns and she learned to be independent for the first time after her husband's passing. She showed her true strength after losing her precious son, Guillermo, Jr., and will forever be remembered in the heart of her children as a dedicated and loving mother. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation and to Gentiva (Kindred at Home) Hospice. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2016, with Recitation of Holy Rosary held at 7:00 p.m. at Mission Funeral Home, 1615 East Cesar Chavez Street, Austin, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
