Obituary of Ramon Garcia Rivera

Our beloved Ramon Garcia Rivera, age 93, resident of Austin was called by our Heavenly Father on Friday, May 19, 2017.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 60 years, Olivia Cortez Rivera; his sons, Ramon Jr. and Michael; his parents, Pedro and Martina Garcia Rivera; his siblings, Fidel Rivera, Cuca Rivera Acuña, Clemente Rivera (who lost his life in France during the Second World War), Pedro Rivera, Jr., Eloisa Ortiz, Miguel Rivera, and Luisa Ortiz; his grandson, Baby Boy Rivera; granddaughter Margaret Rivera; and a great grandchild.

Ramon was born in Sinton, Texas; worked as a sharecropper in McFaddin, Texas; and met the love of his life in Victoria, Texas. They settled down in Austin, Texas and raised a strong and proud family.

Ramon’s greatest wealth was his family, with over six generations of Riveras and their descendants left to carry on his legacy.

Ramon is survived by his beloved children Josie Valdez and husband Steve, Gilbert Rivera and wife Jane, Olivia Hidrogo and husband Tommy, Vera Rivera, Pete Rivera, Sr., and Raymond Rivera, Jr.; his treasured grandchildren Annette Valdez, Christine Valdez, Josie Castillo and husband Eric, Jeanette Valdez, Steve Valdez, Jr., Che Emiliano Rivera, Tania Rivera, Yvette Camacho and husband Paul, Tommy Hidrogo, Jr. and wife Sheila, Johnny Hidrogo, Adam Hidrogo and wife Leslie, Pete Pascone and wife Chelo, Alexander Pascone V and wife Trisha, Nicole Carroll and husband Rico, Pete Rivera, Jr., Marilyn Stanley and husband Lance, Tony Morales Rivera, Victoria Morales, Raymond Rivera III, and Rosie Rivera; numerous great-great grandchildren, and many, many more great-great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2017 with Recitation of Holy Rosary held at 7:00 p.m., Mission Funeral Home, 1615 E. Cesar Chavez St.  A Funeral Liturgy will begin at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Mission Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, with a reception at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Parish Hall immediately after.
