Our beloved Juan L. Chavez, age 91, was called to our Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 11, 2022. He was greeted in heaven by his wife of 65 years, Maria R. Chavez; his daughter, Margarita Chavez; his parents, Guillermo and Isidra Chavez; his brother, Raul Chavez, and his brothers-in-law, Jose Refugio Robledo and Osiel Canalas.
Mr. Chavez is a proud Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. Fourth Degree Knights are the men who have chosen to embrace the Order’s fourth principle of patriotism, the men who lead the efforts to reach out to veterans and active military and to embody the fact that one can be a faithful Catholic and also be a faithful citizen. Our community is grateful for his service. Juan was a parishioner with San Francisco Javier and St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. Juan was dedicated to his faith, his family, and his community. He worked as pipe fitter, Refinary Insulator, Commercial Equipment Operator and Agricultural Farming before retiring.
Juan is survived by his children, Juan Jose Chavez (Esperanza), Maria del Carmen Bera (Jose), David Chavez (Rosa), Eleasar Chavez (Gloria), Javier Chavez (Janie), Guadalupe Cancino (Chris), Omar Chavez (Diana), and Esmeralda Reyes (Orlando); his siblings, Alberto Chavez (Zoila), Eliseo Chavez (Rafaela), Alfredo Chavez, Adolfo Chavez, Elida Robledo, Amelia Chavez Canales, and Irene Chavez; 25 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Zachary Chavez, Hector Chavez, Nicolas Chavez, Ocean Cancino, Javier Chavez, Jr., Joel Chavez, Abel Reyes, Richard Bera, Joe Chavez and Marcos Antonio "Tony" Rios. Honorary Pallbearers will be Justin Chavez, Juan Chavez, Jr., Joe Chavez, Eleasar Chavez, Jr. and Joseph Chavez.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-9:00 p.m. with Recitation of Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Mission Funeral Home - South Side, 6204 S. First St., Austin, Texas.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church, 126 W. Oltorf St., Austin, Texas. Entombment will follow at Onion Creek Memorial Mausoleum.
