Refugio Lopez Olivarez

Our beloved Refugio Lopez Olivarez, age 96, resident of Austin, was born into Eternal Life on Thursday, March 16, 2023. Refugio is reunited with his biological parents, Eulogio Slaughter and Soledad Olivarez Calvillo; his adoptive parents,  Manuel Olivarez and Fernanda Lopez; and his brothers, Ernesto Calvillo and Felix Calvillo. 

Refugio is survived by his wife of 78 years, Dominga Guerrero Olivarez; his daughters, Gloria Rodriguez and her spouse, Antonio, and Mary Esther Ramirez, and her spouse, David; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; his brothers, Angel Calvillo and Johnny Joe Slaughter, from Houston; two sisters, Jesusa Muñoz and Ricarda Garcia; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends. 

Visitation Services will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Mission Funeral Home - East Chapel, 1615 E. Cesar Chavez, Austin, Texas 78702.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 23rd, 2023 at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 2208 E. 2nd St., Austin Texas 78702.

Interment Committal Services will follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S. IH-35, Austin, Texas 78702.

Due to the Coronavirus /  COVID-19 Restrictions from the City of Austin,

capacity levels are restricted at funeral homes, churches, and cemeteries.

Each person entering the funeral home, church, and cemetery will be required to wear a mask

and to practice social distancing of 6 feet or more.   If you are ill or are concerned about the virus,

it is recommended that you not attend services. 

The family is so grateful to everyone for their understanding, love, and support

during this very difficult time.
