On March 10,2001, a beautiful sunny day, with soft southern breezes blowing through the trees, my beloved Husband passed away.Survivors include wife Mary, Best Friend ?Snowflake?; Son, James Atwell and wife Christine, grandchildren Amanda, Shelley, and Adam all of Canada; daughter Karen Quan and Husband Lloyd, of Calgary Canada; Daughter Wendy Bergeron, and Grandchildren Jennifer, Samantha, and Kevin; Great Grandchildren, Jessica and Collin all of Ottawa, Canada; Step Daughter Tammy Butler and grandsons Brandon and Brett of Barrington Hills, IL; Brother Don and wife Marie; nieces Leslie and Lori Atwell all of Windsor Canada; Also survived by numerous relatives in Prince Edward Island, Canada, Florida, England, and Barbados, and friends. He was born in Ottawa, Canada on February 12, 1930, sailed Merchant Marine when he was 15 years old, married, had three children, served in the Canadian Navy, was a Helicopter Mechanic on Search and Rescue in the Artic, and Bogotÿ, Columbia. He moved to Florida, opened Restaurants across the United States, and has been a resident of Austin for about 30 years. He vowed that he would never leave his beloved Austin. He has owned several businesses, was Real Estate Broker, worked for the City of Austin, and recently did Dealer Trades for Champion Toyota. He was a Kentucky Colonel, and for all that knew him, a ?big? man who did not buckle down to anyone. He earned the nickname ?Big Al? for his courage in telling the truth, and being able to stand up for what he believed. A Memorial Service will be held at the Mission Funeral Home, 1611 E. Cesar Chavez St., Austin, TX, 78702 on Thursday, March 15,2001 at 2:00p.m. He was a loving Husband, and Father, and will be missed much more than words can say. He has gone ahead to make a place for all who loved him. When I am called home, may my Soul be joined with him for all eternity. I remember your eyes, I remember your smile. I remember your hands, for a little while. For a little while, I hurt and cry. For a little while I wish.... if only. If only I could kiss you. If only I could hold you. If only I could touch you, for a little while. We?re only here for a little while, and I know we?re apart now for a little while. My long days are all about little whiles, and in my broken heart, eternity means.... for a little while. To view & sign memorial on-line, visit www.missionmemorials.com.
