Obituary of Edward Rendon, Sr.

Our beloved Edward Rendon, Sr., age 91, resident of Austin, Texas, was called to our Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 4, 2018.  He passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Concepcion Martinez Rendon; his daughter, Rachel Redon Pesina; his parents, Pablo and Carolina Rendon; his grandsons, Roy Rendon, Jr. and Richard Rendon, Jr.; great grandchildren, Troy Luna, Gregorio Bara, Andrew Ballesteros and Vanessa Ballesteros; great-great grandson, Josiah Salazar; his brothers, Reynando Rendon, Marshall Rendon, Nick Rendon, Frank "Pancho" Rendon, Pablo Rendon, Fernando Rendon, and Paline Rendon; his sister, Cokita; neice, Irma Balderas; and nephew, Berto Hernandez.

Edward is survived by his loving children, Richard (Mary) Rendon, Sr., Rose (Robert) Rubio, Sr., Roy (Mary) Rendon, Sr., Rebecca Rendon (Andres Ballesteros), Alice “Elisa” (Reuben) Montoya, Rudy (Roseanne) Rendon, Sr., Robert Rendon, and Edward (Yolanda) Rendon, Jr.; his brother, Manuel (Esperanza) Rendon; son-in-law, Frank Pesina, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Lupe Rendon and Chelo Rendon; 51 grandchildren, 165 great grandchildren, and 58 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.

Mr. Rendon was an East Austin Community leader and activist.  He was the founder and former President of East Town Lake Citizen Neighborhood Association, as well as being a co-founder of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.  Mr. Rendon's years of dedication to his community are still seen today as the community of Austin enjoys a beautiful park located on the Northeast side of Town Lake.  Mr. Rendon took the lead in working with local organizations and citizens in the 1970's and 80's to create the park that we all love and enjoy to this day.  In 2007 the park was dedicated to him and renamed "Edward Rendon Sr. Park at Festival Beach" in his honor.  His legacy will live on through his family's continued work in the community, the organizations he founded and co-founded that are still dedicated to the community he cherished, and the park dedicated in his honor.  Mr. Rendon was a mighty force in Austin and will be greatly missed.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Rendon, Roy Rendon, Jr., John Paul Pesina, Sr., Hector Rubio, Anthony Munoz, Sr., Scotty Rendon, Edward Rendon III, and Jesse Silva, Jr.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Andy Munoz, Jr., Jamie Rendon, Rudy Rendon, Jr., Harvey Rendon, Mark Rubio, Sergio Silva, Chris Pesina, and Nancy Rendon.
