Obituary of Lin Sun Gonzalez

Please share a memory of Lin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our beloved mother and wife, Lin Sun Gonzalez, 55, passed away peacefully at the Christopher House in Austin, Texas surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, November 9, 2018.

Our Heavenly Father called Lin home after a courageous battle with cancer.  Prior to Lin coming to Austin, she was able to travel around the world with her family since her father was a diplomat for Taiwan.  Some of the places Lin visited were her birthplace, Vietnam, Taiwan, the Middle East and Panama.

Lin moved to Austin in 1981 to attend The University of Texas where she met her husband.  Her two daughters, Laura and Rachel kept the tradition going by graduating from UT as well.  Lin started working at an entry level position for the State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO).  She worked for the SFMO for 29 years and retired as Director of Administrative Services.  Lin loved being involved in her daughters’ school activities, especially when they were members of Austin High’s marching band.  Lin helped out for eight years attending every football game and chaperoning many band trips.  Her favorite trip was to London, England on New Year’s Eve (2010).

She is survived by her husband of 32 1/2 years, Gonzalo Gonzalez; her beloved daughters, Laura Ann Powell and Rachel Lynn Gonzalez; son-in-law Travis Powell; 5 month old granddaughter, Evelyn Grace Powell; parents, Michael Sun and Rosa Hsieh; brother and sister-in-law, Steve Sun and Ellena Chen; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.  Lin was preceded in death by her brother Ray Sun.

Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. with Funeral Services beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Mission Funeral Home – South Chapel located at 6204 South First Street, Austin, Texas 78745. Interment will follow at Live Oak Cemetery 200 Twin Creek Road, Manchaca, Texas 78652.

In lieu of flowers, The Gonzalez family is asking that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Austin and/or the Christopher House (hospiceaustin.org).
