Obituary of Richard D. Castañeda

Our beloved Richard “Rick” D. Castañeda, age 74, resident of Austin, was called by our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 30, 2019.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Castañeda and Mary Hernandez; his sister, Betty Castañeda; and his brother, Jesse Castañeda.  Mr. Castañeda proudly served our country as a member of the U.S. Army.  As a grateful nation, we thank Mr. Castañeda for his service to our country.

Richard is survived by his children, Norina Sanchez and husband Abel, Jennifer Vega and husband Felipe, and Richard Castañeda, Jr. and his wife Dora; 12 grandchildren, Lauren Marie Bautista and her husband, Mario, Marissa Ann Sanchez, Giuliana Stella Vega, Nicklaus Giovanni Vega, Lucas Zayden Vega, Alyssa Haven Castañeda, Amanda Castañeda, Johnathan Castañeda, Arianna Jane Castañeda, Richard Castañeda, Jordan Alexandra Castañeda, and Aiden Jace Castañeda, and one great grandchild, Layla Faith Bautista; his siblings, Joe R. Castañeda and his wife Maggie, Ronnie Castañeda and wife Sylvia, Mike Castañeda and wife Oralia, Renee Ramirez and husband Roy, Gerald Castañeda and wife Cindy, Jaime “JJ” Castañeda and wife Bea, Danielle Ramirez Castañeda and husband Angel, and John Anthony Castañeda; numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Rick’s little brother, Anthony, for his loving devotion and care throughout Rick’s time of need.  They would also like to thank Heather Dorner and Stephanie Bias with Texas Home Health Hospice for their commitment to Rick’s care.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Scripture Service beginning at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Mission Funeral Home – East Side, 1615 E. Cesar Chavez St. This will conclude services for Mr. Castañeda at this time.
