Obituary of Claire Elizabeth Hernandez

Please share a memory of Claire to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our beloved, Claire Elizabeth Hernandez, also known as “Claire Bear” age 4, of Austin, Texas was called home by our heavenly Father, Friday, February 28, 2020. While in the arms of her loving mother and father, and as her brothers held her hand. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones as she took her last peaceful breaths. The family was so graciously blessed with this angel on May 26, 2015. She was their light and love. During her brief time on earth, even though this little angel was only passing through, she radiated joy and happiness. Her light will continue to shine brightly from heaven.

Claire was born prematurely at 27 weeks on May 26, 2015 weighing only 3 lbs 1 oz. She lived in the NICU for the first 75 days of her life, and fought hard every day to get strong. Even as a tiny baby she was amazing and determined. Upon discharge Claire suffered with developmental delay, and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

With lots of love and dedication from her parents, grandparents, and the help of all her amazing Speech, Occupational and Physical Therapists she was thriving and there was no stopping her.

She attended Boone Elementary PPCD (Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities). She loved learning and helping her classmates, and is deeply loved by both faculty and students of Boone.

On July 2, 2019 Claire was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) which is a very rare and inoperable brain cancer.

She is survived by her loving and devoted parents, Rey and April Hernandez, brothers Logan Scott and Gavin Rey; maternal grandparents, Daniel Ledesma Serrano and Elizabeth Flores Serrano; paternal grandparents, Angelita Esquivel-Lorenzana and Jorge Ulteras Lorenzana; paternal grandfather, Reynaldo Hernandez, Jr; uncle and aunt, Pablo and Teresa Serrano; aunt, Megan Hernandez; cousin, Amaya Serrano; and honorary Tia, Patricia Johnson; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved and cared for her immensely.
