Obituary of Martin P. Rangel

Our beloved Martin P. Rangel, age 76, was called to our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 12, 2020.  He was preceded in death by his son, Benny Rangel; his parents, Nicolas Rangel and Pauline Perez; the mother of his children, Robert, Rachel, and Rebecca, Olivia Herrera; his brother, Joe Rangel, and his brothers-in-law, Elias "Lee" Castro, Sr. and Alex Cheo Cano, Sr.

Martin was a proud member of the East Side community and his presence all over East Austin will be greatly missed.  He was beloved by the entire community.  Martin retired after working construction, owning a catering company, and many other local positions.  He retired to serving his community as a long time staff member of Mission Funeral Home.

Martin is survived by his children, Robert Rangel and his fiance, Susan, Rachel Logue and her husband, Chris, Rebecca Portillo and her husband, Edi, and Evelyn Garcia; his treasured grandchildren, Jonathon Rios, Ashley Moore, Courtney Logue, Christiana Logue, Juliana Garcia, Christopher Garcia, and Nicole Rangel; his great grandchildren, Leah Zavala and Izias Fernandez; his sibling, Pete Rangel and his wife, Margaret, Beatrice Castro, Alfredo Rangel and his wife, Bessie, Irene Martinez and her husband, Randy, and Mary Cano; the mother of his daughter, Evelyn, Felicia R. Constancio, and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Robert H. Rangel, Jonathon R. Rios, Elias "Jr." Castro, Alex Castro, Jr., Chris Logue, and Danny Estrada.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Rabbit Duran, Robert Carreon, Bob Quiroz and Paul Roque.

Lie in State will be held from 2:00 p.m - 4:00 p.m., Monday, May 18, 2020 to allow everyone from the community to stop by and pay their respects at Mission Funeral Home - East Side, 1615 E. Cesar Chavez St., Austin, Texas.  Private visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. for immediate family and very close friends.  Recitation of Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m and will be live streamed via facebook at Mission Funeral Home - East Side (see link below).  

Private Mass of Christian Burial for immediate family and very close friends will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Sta. Julia Catholic Church, 900 Tillery St., Austin, Texas.  Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.

Due to the Coronavirus /  COVID-19 Restrictions from the City of Austin,

Visitation, Mass, and Burial are limited in capacity.

Visitation is limited to 30 people, Mass is limited to 75, and Burial is limited to 30.

Mass at St. Julia Catholic Church each person

entering will be required to wear a mask. 

The family is so grateful to everyone for their understanding, love, and support

during this very difficult time.
