Obituary of Tom G. Soto

Our Beloved Tom G. Soto, age 75, of Austin, Texas, was called by our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 15, 2020.

 

Tom was born on July 14, 1945 to parents Génaro and Nellie Soto in San Angelo, TX.  He was a precocious child with a curiosity about the world. Despite his mischievous nature, to know him was to love him. He was an excellent debater on any topic and would win most of the time. Tom worked at Holcombe Blanton Office Supply during and after high school until he  joined the Air Force and went through basic training with his brother Gene.  While stationed in Kansas, Tom met and married the love of his life, Veronica Modesto.  After his honorable discharge, he moved back home with his bride.  He attended and graduated from ASU with a business degree.  He began his career with the state comptroller’s office as a tax accountant from 1975-2003.  Tom was a tax expert and an extremely valued member of the comptroller’s office and on numerous occasions testified before the Texas Legislature.  They had two children, Victoria and Tomas Soto.  Tom was an active member of San Jose Church for 35 years. He was involved in the following ministries, Choir, Extraordinary minister, Religious education teacher. He attended as well as coordinated Evangelization retreats. He was also involved in the Wake and Rosary ministry. He graduated to the fullness of life on July 15, 2020 at 11:23am, into the arms of our Heavenly Father.

 

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Genaro and Nellie Soto and brother-in-law Bob Laswell. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Veronica Soto; daughter Victoria Soto (Ralph Ramirez);son Tomas Soto; grandchildren: James Soto (Destiny Soto), Matthew Soto, Ariana Soto, Valerie Soto, and Dominic Soto; great-grandchildren: James Soto II, Aiden Soto, Joseph Pena, and Isabella Soto. He is also survived by his siblings: Stella Soto Laswell (San Angelo, TX); Genaro and Victoria Soto (Tomball,TX); Dr. Sylvia and Joe Hernandez (San Angelo TX); Roberto Soto and Dr. Virgina-San Miguel (Tigard,OR) as well as other numerous family friends.

 

Pall bearers are as follow Andrew Soto, Matthew Soto, Julian Valles, Anthony Valles, Luis Salas, and Armando Salas.

 

Due to the Coronavirus / COVID-19 Pandemic

 

Visitation wil be held from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. with Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Mission Funeral Home - South Side (Limit 120 Guests). Each person entering the funeral home is required to have a mask and practice social distancing of 6 feet or more for your safety and those around you.

Services are also being live-streamed at Mission Funeral Home - South Side on Facebook to allow participcation by those who can not be present.  We advise those who want to participate via live-stream to log on to Facebook prior to the services to insure you know how to log on. You must have your own Facebook Page as well.  There is no additional staff on duty at the time of the service to help with logging on and getting connected.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at San Jose Catholic Church. (Limit 150 Guests/Mask Required)

 

Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.(Limit 60 Guests/Masks Required)
