Obituary of Richard Almanza Maldonado

Rick was born November 10, 1951, in Austin Texas. He passed away on September 8, 2021. 

Rick was preceded in death by his parents Larry and Rebecca Maldonado, and his brother, Frank Maldonado. 

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy; his children, Derek Maldonado, Dean Maldonado, and his partner, Lisa, Chris Maldonado, and his partner, Lucy, Lori Maldonado, and her spouse, Viviano Arriaga, Richard Maldonado, Jr., and his spouse Deanna, Monica Huerta, and her spouse, Juan; 16 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Henry Maldonado, Ruth "Dolly" Marquez, and her spouse, Ram, Del Candelario, and her spouse, Hector; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and countless friends. 

Rick was a journeyman machinist for over 30 years, working for many years at Lockheed Martin, building parts for the stealth bombers and projects for NASA. Rick retired from the University of Texas at Austin, at the Aerospace Engineering Department in 2009 after 14 years of service. 

The family would like to give a special thanks to Fresenius  Kidney Care of Lockhart's entire staff for taking great care of him while he was there. Also, a special thanks to Baylor, Scott, & White Medical Center in Lakeway, Texas, for taking care of him in his time of need. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Mission Funeral Home - East Side, 1615 East Cesar Chavez Street, Austin, Texas. 

The Funeral Service will be held the following morning, Friday, September 17, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., also at Mission Funeral Home - East Side. 

Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. 

Services will be live-streamed to allow those who cannot attend to participate. Follow link to Mission East Side Facebook Live.

Due to the Coronavirus /  COVID-19 Restrictions from the City of Austin,

capacity levels are restricted at funeral homes, churches, and cemeteries.

Each person entering the funeral home, church, and cemetery will be required to wear a mask

and to practice social distancing of 6 feet or more.   If you are ill or are concerned about the virus,

it is recommended that you not attend services. 

The family is so grateful to everyone for their understanding, love, and support

during this very difficult time.
