Obituary of Pedro "Pete" Duran

Pedro Celestino Duran (Pete) was called to meet his Heavenly Father on November 16, 2021 at the age of 92 years. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Benita Serrano Duran. Parents Gabriel and Luisa Rivas Duran. Sons, Pedro Guadalupe (Lupe) Duran, Ernest Duran, Albert Duran, and daughter, Rosemary Duran.

He is survived by his children, Benita D. Longoria (Tony), Sandy Gonzalez (Arnold), and Joe Duran (Christine). His sisters, Maria Gracia Llanas of Wisconsin, Florinda Ruiz of Austin, and brother, John Duran of Temple. Also survived by numerous Grandchildren, Great grandchildren and Great great grandchildren.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Jonah Cantu, Gabriel Duran, Daniel Longoria, David Longoria, Donnie Putman, Michael Lopez, Jr., Arnold Gonzalez IV, and Justyn Quintanilla.

Pete was born and raised in Creedmoor, Texas on May 19, 1929. He attended Creedmoor school through the 7th grade until he had to leave school to help farm the land while his older brothers were servicing their Country. Then he was called to serve the Korean War and enlisted in the Army. He married his beloved wife of 62 years, Benita Serrano Duran. After serving his Country, he and his wife settled in Montopolis, a small community east of Austin where they raised their five children and started his auto mechanic business Duran’s Garage. After retirement and becoming empty nesters they became foster parents opening their home and heart to many children providing their unconditional love. Some remained in their home until they were adopted. Not only were they foster parents, they were Grandpa and Grandma to all the children they cared for. As their Golden years were approaching, it was time to focus more on family and their grandchildren. He cherished his family beyond measure. He left his memories and legacy to his family he and his wife created. He was a Christian man who had great faith in God. Special thanks to all the Nurses, Aides, and Staff at Legend Oaks Nursing home for their dedication and love they gave to our Dad. Dad, you were one of a kind. No one compares to you. Missing you alot.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-9:00 p.m. with Recitation of Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 29, 2021 at Mission Funeral Home - South Side, 6204 S. First St., Austin, Texas.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Dolores Catholic Church, 1111 Montopolis Dr., Austin, Texas.  Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S. IH 35 Frontage Rd., Austin, Texas.
