It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Heriberto Cortez Jr. ,67, of Austin, Texas on February 16, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Heriberto, Sr., Connie Guerra, Lucille Zamora, Elias Zamora and his siblings, Ruben Zamora, Jerry Zamora, Zack Zamora, and Paul Zamora.

Herb gave and shared memorable years with us including eighteen years in the United States Air Force where he served in the capacity of equipment and asset clerk. Although suffering from a post-traumatic stress disorder, incurred during the Persian Gulf War, he left this world peacefully.

Herb is survived by his children, John Herbert Cortez, Jesse Tony Cortez, Roberto Cortez (Cambrie), and Eduardo Cortez; grandsons, Maddox Cortez and Mason Cortez; his brothers, Adam Castro, Lee Zamora, John Cortez, John Zamora, and Ronnie Zamora; his sisters, Linda Cortez, Elisa Perez, Olivia Rodriguez, Lisa Lerma, Sissy Bosley, Bernadette Hyatt, Jessica Baca, Norma Paredez, Sonya Reyes, and Aida Dinorah, and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.

Please keep our families in your prayers. In lieu of flowers, please consider the sacrifices of all veterans, their contributions and their needs, and consider giving back to them in any way.

Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. with a Scripture Service beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Mission Funeral Home - South Side, 6204 S. First St., Austin, Texas.
