Condolences to the Davila Family. I got to know your mom when we would meet monthly at Little Mexico Restaurant to recite the rosary and we always sat across from each other. She and I immediately hit it off. We both would look forward to meeting up each month. Unfortunately, we stopped meeting and we never saw each other again, partly due to Covid. But during that brief period of time that we had together we established a bond. She was very sweet and always dressed very nice and she would laugh at me because I would get there late and the waiter would pressure me to order because we were about to start, so I would just tell the waiter, "I will have whatever Mary Alice is having". She will be greatly missed. May your mom's memories help comfort you, and may your faith help to ease your sadness, always, Linda Rubio.

I send my heartfelt condolences to Mary Alice's beloved family. I first met Mary Alice and her sister Sonia in third grade at Metz Elementaray School. She was always a kind and gentle person whose priority was family. Mary Alice was very intelligent, sophisticated, and a people person. She made all who met her or knew her feel at ease and respected. She was a lot like her Mother, who was one of the kindest persons I had ever known. She is with Edward and her family now. May the love and power of God surround her family always. Alicia Aguirre Ranzau.

I already miss everything about you, Grams. Our talks on the phone, making plans, the way you would touch my face, your hugs, just everything. I remember you were so excited when I got to take you to the Governor's Mansion for Easter this past April. You said in all these years, you’ve never been. Thank you for being my daily lunch date for three years when I first started working for the state over 20 years ago at UT. I love that you would go with me to a Christmas Affair to kick off the holidays. Love you more.

From the moment I met Mary Alice, she immediately welcomed me with so much love. I do not have my own family here in Texas, but Mary Alice made me feel as if I were her own grandchild. She always greeted me with a hug and genuine smile, she showed interest in my life, she always included me on the invites, sent random texts to just say hello and that she was thinking about me and my children, and showed my parents so much kindness when they visited. She had an enormous heart and a loving spirit. My heart is broken that my time with her was ended so soon, but I am grateful that life brought us to Austin when it did, and that I was able to get to know her better before she was called home. Mary Alice touched so many lives, including mine and she will be eternally missed.

Some of my favorite memories of my grandma took place at UT: first eating at the Union with her as a kid during her lunch breaks when she worked in the Tower and then when she came to visit me at my job at one of the UT Libraries when I was a graduate student (pictured above). My grandma had an extensive career at the university, working at the Center for Mexican American Studies and eventually for the Graduate School Department. She always took pride in her work. She also encouraged and inspired me and many of my family members to pursue our careers and higher education. My cousins, aunts, uncles, mom, sister, other family members, and I wouldn’t be who we are today without her.

My favorite memory of my Grandma is how she would always greet me. How she would say “Hiiii Shelllbyyyy” the same way every time she saw me, and would give me a huge hug. She always looked so perfect and put together no matter the occasion. She was always so classy and gracious. I loved going to her house and watching Selena all the time when I was little. I loved spending every holiday at her house. She missed my Grandpa so much, and I’m so happy she is with him again. My Grandma was so loved by myself and so many people.

I’ll miss talking to my mom at 5:00 pm every week day; doing fun things every weekend; our many trips to Dillard’s when Lancôme had a gift with any purchase; the snacks she gave to Missy, Liv and Padme with each visit; the funny stories she told about Precious; the many vacations we went on together….and so many memories that there isn’t enough room to say them all. I’ve lost my favorite running buddy and best friend.
