Obituary of Maria Martinez Guzman
On October 19, 2022, while surrounded by her daughter Ida and her granddaughters Cindy and Connie, our beloved mother and dear grandmother, Maria (Mary) Guzman, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep when Mary was called to her heavenly home.
Mary loved life, and most of all, she loved her family in Arizona and Texas.
Among so many things, she was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, and friend to all who knew her. She instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of family and always love each other. Her love of family was known by all who knew her. She was their biggest fan with a heart of gold. Her children and all her 73 grandchildren were her life! She loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important. She always had kind words and a thankful heart for anyone who offered her the slightest assistance. She always had a smile on her face.
Mary was born on April 13, 1931, in Indio, California, to Manuel and Julia Martinez. She was married for 54 years to Robert C. Guzman and had four children with him. Mary spent more than 40 years in Phoenix, Arizona, before relocating to Austin, Texas, for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel & Julia; her sisters Vera Hackney and Alice Guzman; her husband, Robert C. Guzman; her sons Ralph, Tony Martinez, Robert Martinez Guzman; her daughter Irene DeLaRosa, all from Phoenix Arizona along with her granddaughter Amanda Guzman from Menard, Texas. All together again, and now they dance with the angels in heaven.
She is survived by her siblings, Velia Martinez, Rosa Murillo & Gloria Wasserman, and her brothers, Manuel & Gabriel Martinez. Her daughters are Vera Montecillo and Ida Santa Ana. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren & 6 great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
We miss you dearly and feel your presence everywhere we go, but know that you are in a better place in the company of family and friends. You will always be in our hearts always and forever. We will never forget you and your love and devotion to your family. These we will nurture and grow, and we will pass these gifts to our children and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff of Onion Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Austin, Texas, and everyone who attended to her. We are forever grateful for all their kindness and genuine, loving care.
