Obituary of Maria Rose Martinez

Our beloved Maria Rose Zamora Martinez, age 85, resident of Kyle, Texas, was called home to our Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 29, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Juanita Zamora and Candelaria "Larry" R. Zamora; her husband, Joel G. Martinez; her grandson, Kristopher Martinez; her siblings, Elias Zamora, Sr., Larry R. Zamora, Jr., and Dorothy Maldonado; her sister in law, Lucille S. Zamora. 

Maria is survived by her children, Joel Martinez, Jr., Alice Banks (Tony), Virginia Martinez (Karena), Steve Martinez (Lorie), Louis Martinez (Melinda), and Bertha Canales (Juventino); 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Carmen Zamora, Norma Martinez, Dominga Martinez, and Stephanie Martinez; her brother-in-law, Joe Maldonado; numerous nieces and nephews and many other loving family and friends. 

Maria was small in stature but took pride and made sure all who visited the Austin Convention Center were following directions and safe, as she worked as Event Security for over 20 years. Before then she worked for the Eanes Independent School District where she had retired from. While she was not working, she loved to spend time with family and friends, shop, and take trips to the casino. Maria’s love was felt by many as she always made sure if you were a guest in her home, you were comfortable, fed, and made sure the drinks were flowing. She really was the life of the party. Her presence, love and laughter, and not to mention her delicious salsa, will be missed.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Juventino Canales IV, Mike Canales, Louie Ureste, Jr., Alejandro Ureste, Ryan Martinez, Thomas Parra, Eufemio Castillo, Jr., and Matthew Price. Honorary Pallbearers are Juventino Canales V, Nathaniel Castillo, Noah Castillo, and Sebastian Canales. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Misson Funeral Home Serenity, 6204 S 1st Street, Austin, Texas 78745.

Mass of Catholic Burial will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest Drive, Austin, Texas 78704.

Burial to follow at Assumption Cemetery. 

The family would like to thank the Ascension Seton Hays Hospital and Hospice for their amazing work taking care of our loved one on her last days.
