Obituary of Louis Murillo

Please share a memory of Louis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our beloved Louis Murillo, age 92, was called to our Heavenly Father on Friday, February 24, 2023.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe Murillo and Dora Martinez; his brother, David Murillo; his sisters, Janie Murillo Borics and Lupe Murillo Church.

Louis is survived by his brother, Frank Murillo; his sisters, Joyce Murillo Zea, Tonie Murillo Apresa, and Mary Murillo Andrade; his long time friend and care provider, Roy Morgan, and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.

Not even a teen, Louis forged a strong connection to the University of Texas athletics department that would ultimately lead to bigger than life adventures for him.  His love of all things University of Texas would provide Louis decades upon decades of sports and relationships with players, coaches, and many other UT fans and alumni.

Born December 6, 1930 and raised in East Austin, Louis would drop out of elementary school and start working at the 7-Eleven located in East Austin.  This job would lead him to selling sodas at UT games and that would lay the ground work for an incredible life that revolved around University of Texas athletics.  In the 50s he would temporarily leave East Austin and his beloved Longhorns to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. Once his commitment was complete, he would return to East Austin, to his job at the 7-Eleven and to the University of Texas athletic complex.  He would steady increase his commitment and work to UT as friendship grew between him and coaches and other staff members.  Louis became well versed in many areas of operation for UT athletics and in the late 70s would become Darrell Royal's personal driver.  His adventures are too numerous to mention them all.  His love for UT sports held his heart though, whether taking his favorite position near the dug-out for UT baseball games or providing last minute pep talks in the football tunnel, for over 80 years, his dedication is unmatched.  He is a legend amongst legends and will be missed beyond the ability to express.

Pallbearers will be Sal Castillo, Lucio Govea, Roy Morgan, Rodney Castillo, Mark Hernandez and Edward Martinez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tony "TC" Castillo & John "Hawk" Saldana.
